A New Year, A New You

Monday, January 07, 2013

Afternoon! I was reading Zoe's Hello 2013 post yesterday, and I found myself nodding along and realising how similar my 'wants' are to hers. I thought I'd write my own post so I can look back in December to see how far I've gotten. Like Zoe, 2012 and a few years before that have been very tough for me, so this year I have set myself a few (hopefully realistic) goals, so that when the end of the year arrives, it will end on a high note. That's what I'm hoping anyway!
Here's a few of the things I would like to achieve in 2013...

Ease my anxiety
Without bringing down the mood too much, some of you may already know that I've suffered from an anxiety and panic disorder my whole life. Since I was in Year 8 things have been rather tough, to the point where I can't get on public transport, see any of my friends, or do anything I'd love to do. It's obviously all knocked my confidence a bit, so this year I'm determined to beat it! I turn 18 soon, and can start a better therapy and get Hypnotized... So hopefully with that along with some positive thinking, I will finally kick it's butt!

♥ Take care of my tummy
Since I can remember I've been awful at drinking. I never get thirsty at all, so I tend to just forget to drink! I'd hate to think what 17 years of drinking a max of two cups of water a day is doing to my insides, so this year I'm aiming to drink at least 8 cups a day. (eep). Like Zoe I'm naturally petite too, so lets hope I don't need a wee every 5 minutes! I'm also going to switch chocolate for an apple once in a while, it can't hurt to get a bit more fruit and veg in there can it?

♥ Use my diary
I like to think I'm an organised person, but to be truthful the only thing that's organised about me is my bedroom. In 2013 I'm going to make sure that I use my diary, which means more a more structured schedule, and a less stressed me.

♥ Be a better blogger
Becoming a blogger is the best decision I've ever made, I love it! However sometimes I find myself making it into a bit of an unnecessary worry, which can make updating feel like a bit of a chore. If I haven't put a post up for a bit I get all stressed out, which can sometimes result in a bit of a rushed post that I'm not 100% pleased with. - Which isn't what I want! This year I'm going to make sure I plan my posts out well, and make sure I'm happy with what I produce. Which means better posts for you, and a Blog that I'm proud of!

♥ Keep a journal
Being the cluttered minded person I am, I find it very therapeutic to write/doodle things down sometimes. Believe it or not, I'm actually quite arty-farty! So this year i'm going to put down my laptop once in a while *gasp*, and put pen/paintbrush to paper. I also think it will be nice to look back at in few years time and smile cringe at my 18 year old self!

♥ Phoebe it
I've always loved Phoebe from F.R.I.E.N.D.S attitude to life, not caring what anybody else thinks and just being herself... (even if she is fictional). Sometimes I find myself looking in the mirror wearing a Lookbook.nu inspired outfit, and thinking, 'I really like my clothes today, but what if nobody else does?' and I often end up getting changed so I can just blend in with other people. Or wanting to have my favourite AC/DC song as my ringtone, but not changing it in case people think it's strange. But this year I'm going to raise a middle finger to society and do what makes me feel good!

♥ Get out there
Like I said, being out in public is a real struggle at the moment, so in 2013 I am going to try my best to build new relationships, strengthen my current ones, go to work again, and generally spend more time out and about. Even if it's just taking my Mum out for a coffee, I'd love to be able to do more bits and pieces rather than watching Gossip Girl re-runs all day long...

So those are my goals for 2013, lets hope I manage to stick to them! Maybe if I plan a 'Let's see whether I achieved my goals or not' post for December, it might keep me in this motivational mood all year!

Have you got any resolutions?

  2. I read Zoe's post as well and realised how much of what she said applies to me! Especially the drinking more water thing, sounds a bit silly but I just bought myself a really cute water bottle from ebay to try and motivate myself to drink more haha. Good luck for 2013! :)

I felt almost the same as you a couple of years ago, but I am now finishing university and I have learned to kinda overcome my shyness and feel less anxiety when talking to new people, I now I can care less about what people think of me! So if you need someone to talk to about this you can contact me ^^

  15. I definitely need to try and drink more water, I'm so bad at it and always realise I've barely drunk that day and round off the evening with a big headache because I'm so dehydrated. Don't even want to think how bad it is for my skin! Good luck with the rest of your aims :) x
