Origins Products - My First Impressions

Monday, February 25, 2013

A few months ago when my Mum and I were in Debenhams, I decided to visit the newly opened Origins counter not quite knowing what to expect. I'm sure that a lot of you will have been to an Origins counter before, but if not you might not know about the nifty little samples they offer. I was met by an extremely helpful lady who asked me about my skin, and then recommended products suitable for my skin type without making me feel pressured into making a purchase; Instead, she tried a few products on the back of my hand, and then filled up these generous sized sample pots and sent me off to give them a try. - Which I've only just got round to doing 3 months later. Oops...

View all of the products over at Origins
01. Modern Friction Scrub - Like all Origins products, this scrub has quite a unique (by no means unpleasant) smell. The texture is very grainy which feels quite pleasant to apply, exfoliates quite well, (although it may be a tad harsh for those of you with sensitive skin) and made my combination skin feel very moisturised afterwards. Although it's an okay scrub, I'm not sure I'd purchase the full size as I personally didn't feel like it did an awful lot for me other than making my face a tiny bit softer. I will carry on using the samples though, I might learn to love it!

02. Clear Improvement Mask - I can't decide whether I love or hate this product! I've used this clay based mask a few times now around my nose, which tends to be my most problematic area with both spots and dry patches. The mask itself is very cooling, smells like mud (in the nicest way possible), and dries hard, which I really like in face masks as I feel like it's doing its job. Although it did really help to clear out my pores and reduce my blackheads; which is great, it did dry out my face a bit which isn't all that good for my dry patches!
I would definitely recommend this mask to those of you with oily or spot prone skin as I found that it really helped to draw blemishes and oils to the surface really effectively. If you have dry/combination skin I'd give a sample a try first!

03. Make A Difference + Rejuvenating Treatment - This oil free treatment (to be used after serum) has quite a light, cooling gel formula which was initially surprisingly moisturising. When I first saw the product I expected it to sit on top of my skin and not really do much, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised - Especially with how stubborn my skin is with accepting moisture! That was quite short lived though (as I expected) because my skin literally drinks up every product I've ever tried. - Don't let that put you off, it's still a great product! The treatment feels really nice to apply and a little really goes a long way.
Although Origins recommend using it morning and night, I would probably only use it at night before my night cream, as I didn't feel as though it held enough moisture to see me through the day.

04. Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash - This was without a doubt my favourite product of the four. The first thing I noticed about it was the smell, which is quite minty and so refreshing (perfect for summer). I'm quite naive sometimes and the smell of something can sway me before I've even tried the product, so I really wanted to like this face wash.
The face wash has quite a thick, almost creamy consistency and lathers really well on the skin (although I wouldn't say that it's very 'frothy' as such). Used alongside a flannel to slightly exfoliate my skin, this product definitely made my face look, feel, and not to mention smell very clean. - I love it!
My only negative comment is that although it doesn't dry out my skin, it does end up feeling 'squeaky clean' rather than moisturised clean, so I would definitely end up using a toner along with the face wash.
Will I be buying the full sized tube? ...probably.

Have you tried any Origins products before? Would you like to?

  1. I've tried the clay mask but didn't love it to be honest. I must prefer my Botanics mask and it's far cheaper too. I haven't used it in a while though so maybe I should try it again.

  4. Out of the four the Mask is what I'm most interested to try. I didn't know they did samples like that. Might have to do that before forking over money for something I've never tried.
