DIY Flower Crown | Under £5

Friday, May 03, 2013

Good afternoon, I hope you're enjoying the sunshine as much as I am! A trend that I absolutely love lately is flower crowns. Most of the time however they're a tad on the pricey side (about £30 on average - eek!), so I thought I'd have a crack at making my own for a fraction of the price. The best thing about making your own flower crown is that you get to customize it to your taste too!

I'm really happy with how my flower crown turned out and I still have lots of flowers left over, so I'm sure I'll find a good use for them! Bear in mind that this is just one of the ways to made a flower crown, and you could always use a hairband or smaller flowers if you prefer...

You Will Need:
Some fake/silk flowers with wire inside the stem (I got mine for 99p per bunch at a shop in my town)
♥ A Hot Glue Gun
♥ Scissors
Jewelry Wire
Pliers (optional)

♥ Step 1
Take one of your bunches and pull off the flowers and leaves, leaving you with the main stem. Wrap the stem around your head to determine what size it needs to be, then secure in place using your jewelry wire. I secured it in three different places and used some pliers to make sure I wouldn't get poked by any sharp edges! You may also want to trim off any excess small stems, but that's down to your personal preference.

♥ Step 2
Choose which flowers you want to use, and after trimming down their stalks a bit (so that they're easier to stick onto the stem), arrange them on the table/ground so you have a general idea of how you would like your flower crown to look.
Once you've done that, use your hot glue gun to secure each flower in place and add some leaves afterwards to fill in any gaps. I went back over the flowers and added a little more glue once it had dried just to make sure they stay in place nicely.

And that's it! I hope this was simple enough to follow, please let me know if you're going to give it a go! Ooh, and thank you to  my little sister for being my (very patient) model...
